State of Me

First, for those who followed my post about Bird, he is doing well for the moment. He pretty much hates us for shoving antibiotics down his throat for like a month, but he's healthy for now.

I, however, am currently something of a mystery. I've been suffering various pains and aches all year that nothing gets rid of. Over the counter stuff doesn't touch, prescription strength naproxen didn't touch it, and it definitely isn't going away after basically six months of misery and me freaking the fuck out on poor Sasha on a nigh-daily basis.

So the doctor definitely thinks something more is at play, but we don't know what. So begins the process of elimination with bloodwork, and sometime in the near future an appt with a rheumatologist to get their assessment and rule out other things.

In the meantime, I've been put on Cymbalta to manage the pain (it's also used to treat anxiety, which is not a bad thing). The past few days have been extremely fuzzy, and my ability to sleep is completely fucked right now, but hopefully it will settle in another week or so.

So if I seem weird or extra flaky or anything over the next few weeks, that is why.

Much love to everyone who has read and enjoyed The Pirate of Fathoms Deep. You've no idea how much your comments and positive reviews and messages have cheered me up. I'm super happy everyone is stoked for Heart of the Lost Star too, since it's been my favorite to write so far. Currently I am bouncing between Rene's story (#0) and story #4, which I had started, but then scrapped and am now trying to start over. But it's about Myra, and the rest will have to remain a mystery for now :3 :3 :3

And now I am going to try and take a nap, though I don't hold out much hope. I'm not kidding when I say this medicine looks at my need for sleep and goes FUCK YOU.

But I'm bound to collapse eventually ^^;;

I hope everyone has a good week! <3 p="">

  1. My father also suffers from severe pains due to arthritis, and the only OTC medicine that helps him is diclofenac (its generic name). It is used for moderate as well as strong pain in bones mostly. Maybe you could try it... although I wouldn't know if it interacts with Cymbalta, you'd have to check. Hopefully, you'll know soon what's causing you those pains.

Glad everything is OK with Bird, and hope everything will be OK with you, too.

  2. I'm happy to hear about Bird , not so happy about you. Hopefully the tests show at least that it is something easy to treat!
Fathoms deep was great and can't wait for the rest!!
Best wishes for you and Bird!

  3. We are all very glad to know that Bird is doing well. :D

I feel bad that you, on the other hand, have been suffering from constant pain. If it helps, maybe you could also consider trying out acupuncture? You seriously need to de-stress after all that has been going on. You and Sasha do need it.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Fathoms Deep. I wanted it to go on and on and on.... <3 <3 <3

Thank you for your stories. They truly are a wonderful gift to us. <3

  4. Good to hear that Bird is doing better, I surely hope that the same can soon be said for you. Chronic pain is truly awful. Cymbalta can either do wonders or it can be worse than where you started from - may you be in the former group rather than the latter!

  5. I'm a sort of a lurker fan of yours (that is, I read your blog and all your books, but never comment), but since you're feeling unwell, I thought it's time to emerge.

So, I've been struggling with depression for a long time, and while I'm currently better (thanks, Zoloft!), ~2 years ago I was in a really bad place. One of the many horrible things about depression is that the things that usually cheered you up stop being enjoyable, so there's no escape from the gloom. I don't know what would have happened to me back then if I hadn't discovered your books. When I read them I could get away from my depression for awhile. It doesn't sound like much, but it was an immense help in that difficult time. Thank you.

While I can't really help with your pain, I'm sending you tons of internet hugs and prayers and I hope you get well soon, or at least find out what the problem is and how to treat it.

I also have to mention that I absolutely loved Fathoms Deep, I was kind of confused at some points ("Wait, who's Lord Tara?"), then I realized that I somehow missed the fact that the High King's Golden Tongue was expanded! At that point I knew the original novella practically by heart, having reread it countless times, so it was the best surprise ever. I love how you deepened Allen's character. I can't wait to read Heart of the Lost Star, I can already tell from the snippet you published that it's going to be a great read. (Any chances of getting an approximate publication date? I know it's 2017, but is it more like March 2017 or October 2017...?)

Again, thank you so much, wishing you lots of health.

  7. I just wanted to let you know that I've bought nearly every book you've written and read all the freebies on your site, you are one of my all time favorite authors and I love everything you write. Literally everything, I might not be able to afford my textbooks this semester because I spent so much on buying your books this last year...but it was worth it!

I'm sorry that you aren't feeling well, but I'm glad that Bird is doing better! My brother has been experiencing many of the same symptoms on antianxiety medication, we finally took him to see a neurologist after nearly a year of trying everything and nothing working. He's doing better now that we have an idea of what's actually going on, our mistake was in going to see other doctors first and taking him to a therapist because it's actually an issue with him neurologically, one that he's had for a long time that only recently started affecting him severely, nothing else was working. So please go see a neurologist if you can, it's better to know and cross it off the list if you can.

I also recommend seeing a chiropractor and massage therapist if you don't already, they might be able to do more for your body aches and pains than the medication. I have consistent back and neck pain (extremely tall person, lots of bending and looking down) and I see a chiropractor and massage therapist every couple weeks. Those everyday things people do (gardening, shopping, painting, playing with pets and kids) including sitting at a computer for several hours working on my next favorite book series, can cause body pains that will build up. This is especially true if you've been really stressed out for a long period of time and then that stress "relaxes." Suddenly your body doesn't tense in reaction to the situation anymore, and your body is able to send signals about the rest of the stuff going on with you.

I hope some of that helps and that you feel better soon, I'm really looking forward to your next book. Good luck and health to you, and happy writing

Also, I am sorry to hear about your health problems. I hope you feel better soon.

  9. I am so sorry you haven't been feeling well!!! I truly hope the doctors are able to diagnose this mystery and find the treatment that can help. Also, I'm reading "The High King's Golden Tongue" right now and LOVING IT. AHHHHH. Like so, so much.
